Novel Classification of Conflicts that We Generally Encounter
Man entered in the conflict since creation, when the soul was inserted in the body made of clay. Since then soul has been combating against body, that has several needs and desires, most of them are contrary to souls’.
Conflict is as natural as other hurdles and hitches are in human life, though it can be productive if tackled and resolved tactically while can be very destructive if prolonged and exacerbated. There are several types of conflict described in different perspectives. Brad Evans (2013) described in his blog four types of conflict Intrapersonal conflict (psychological clash within an individual involving the thoughts, values, principles and emotions), Interpersonal conflict (clash between two or more people), Intragroup conflict (clash among the members of a group) and Intergroup conflict (clash between two or more than two groups, or among the members of a group with members of other groups). Conflict can also be classified into Relationship Conflicts, Data Conflicts, Interest Conflicts, Structural Conflicts, and Value Conflicts.
There can be various types of conflicts form different perspective. Few novel types of conflict and their sub classifications are described below that are very general and encountered by people from all spheres of life.
1.Conflict upon being right or wrong
If both parties are considering themselves right and other wrong this will turn into arguments. There can be two types of this conflict.
1.1 Conflict of opinion
If parties have conflict of different thoughts and beliefs about any matter. Both can be seeing it from different point of view. It can only be resolved with definitions, explanations and gentle discourse.
1.2 Conflict about fact
If both parties have conflict about their knowledge of any matter, that can be resolved by providing evidences and witnesses. Debates and arguments will worsen such conflict.
2. Conflict upon not being treated fairly
People have grievances about how they are treated, whether by family, in academic life, in organization or in any other social group. This type of conflict can also be classified into two.
2.1 Conflict with the authority
People make the authority responsible for unfair treatment, and raise voice against the people in authority, as they are at helm of affairs to allocate the resources. Such conflicts mostly result in emergence of interest groups and union activities. This type of conflict can be resolved with paper work and continual pursuance of the demands rather protesting and sabotaging.
2.2 Conflict with the beneficiary
People may blame the beneficiary for getting undue benefits and causing the affectee to be treated unfairly. Such conflict can be judgemental and biased from the complainant’s side. The beneficiary might have not influenced the situation but was bestowed, therefore the complainant should more focus on approval and persuasion of authority rather than the beneficiary.
3. Conflict upon refusal to submission
People may refuse to obey and comply with the rulers, feudal or officials because of giving reason of incompetence, misuse of power or just because of ego or any other reason. Such conflict needs realization of the party who refuses to obey. Whether the influencing party really has dominion to exercise power or doesn’t have one. The affected party may take legal help if the influencer is threatening or forcing, or should comply if the influencer deserves to exercise power.
4. Conflict upon claiming own superiority and others’ inferiority
People may expose their superiority in front of others and other inferiority. Obviously other party will not accept the self-proclaimed superiority and is will cause a conflict. This can be avoided by person who is being considered inferior by ignoring and staying away from the self-proclaimed superior. As no one can be superior or inferior with anybody’s assumption.
5. Conflict upon being harmed or disturbed
People’s actions might be distracting and troubling others, so others will show their reaction, irritation and frustration, which will not be understood by troublemaking party, consequently will ask for more trouble. It may involve occupying or snatching others’ resources and causing the dispute, or disturbing others by physical, verbal or non-verbal actions. This type of conflict can also be resolved with legal actions by filing a suit against the party if it is matter of snatching someone’s’ property, physical harm, or against libel, slander, invasion of privacy etc.
6. Conflict upon correcting others
Most common and justified source of conflict is when people think that others need to be corrected as they seem to be having believes and values contrary to them or having living style, which the first party is not approved of. This type of conflict can be avoided by ignoring or tolerating the party who is preaching or criticizing at you, as their words cannot make you wrong if you are not and you should be right before allowing them to make you right.
The above classification is subjective and can be overlapping to one another. However it will help readers to understand and handle the type of conflict they are going through.
