Bhawalpur Oil Tanker fire: Ogra held Shell Pakistan responsible

Pakistan private company Shell has held as responsible for Ahmedpur Sharqia, Bhawalpur tragedy by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The Ahmedpur Sharqia incident which has taken 200 lives so far.

The investigation report was issued by the regulatory body regarding the oil spill and oil tanker explosion in Bhawalpur. OGRA said that Oil Market Company (OMC) is responsible for the incident as the oil tanker of company was not meeting the prescribed standards.

According to report, 15 excel tanker is used to transport 50,000 litre oil whereas oil tanker exploded was of 14 excel. Reports stated that the fitness certificate of the oil tanker was not original. OMC violated the rules of standards set by OGRA.

The report directed the private oil company to pay Rs 0.5m to injured of the incident while Rs 1 million to the families of victims. Beside the compensation money, OGRA imposed Rs 10 million fine.
