Fingerprint scanner will assist in arresting criminals from Punjab Police
Punjab information technology board has developed a tool that will assist as a criminal record identifier. The device behaves like a criminal Record Identifier, which is installed at many police stations in Punjab. Until now there are 7 thousand fingerprints are scanned in seven months which makes an average of 30-40 individuals that gets matched every day.
Officials of the police department said that CRI is a co-product of PITB and Punjab police. The fingerprint-based tool lets the police officials recognize the suspects fingerprint with the embedded central database. The central database contains information about criminals from all over province, which can accurately find 20 million matches every second.
Punjab Police currently uses CRI from last November, which has matched 9258 fingerprints along with the police criminal record. The system is active at 142 police stations in the main cities of Punjab and 67812 prints are gathered until now.
The officials claimed that tool had helped a lot in arresting the suspected elements in recent robbery case of Mansoorabad where the habitual robber was arrested having a criminal index.
The powerful features of CRI will prove to be more helpful in future. The officials pointed that Sindh and Punjab will be sharing the database of criminals. PITB implemented Criminal Record Management System and also established the independent serve for Sindh Police to identify and record criminals on basis of biometric details. More than 50 thousand criminal records are registered and digitized the newly established system. The criminals will be identified from all over the country because use of CRI will reduce the crime rate in Pakistan.
