Notice taken by Senate body over ‘Fake surgeon’s photos’
The picture of the fake surgeon is circulating on social media for over a year for which the Senate Committee on National Health Services (NHS) took notice.
It is seen in the picture that a person is wearing a vast and is doing surgery on the patient.
NHS ordered the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to look over the matter and submit the report to the committee.
Earlier this issue was raised by the senator of MQM, Mian Ateeq. While discussing the matter, the pathetic condition of many laboratories and clinics which were run by unqualified people have been pointed out.
During the discussion, Mian Ateeq showed the picture to the members. Mian Ateeq told that the person in the picture belongs to Jhang.
The chairman of National Health Services (NHS) said that the issue is very serious and the committee will take notice and investigate the matter.
Although the assurance regarding the investigation of matter has been given by the registrar of PMDC, Dr. Azhar Ali Shah but the Director General of NHS, Dr. Asad Hafiz cleared that council cannot take action until and unless it is approved by legislation.
He said that a large number of dispensers and homeopaths are claiming to be MBBS doctors but we can’t take action as the matter doesn’t have magisterial powers.
He said along with legislation, a council must also be established to look over such irregularities in the health sector.
During the discussion, Senator Azam Swati of PTI claimed that he is working to improve the health sector over the years and no one knows better than him. He said thousands of people are earning million rupees with fake medical degrees and diplomas.
Azam Swati said that a bill had been submitted by him to house regarding the increase in punishment from the current Rs 200,000 fine and six months imprisonment.
Senator Ateeq agreed on the bill represented by Azam Swati regarding the increase in punishment for quackery.
