Vice Chancellor: GCU will establish Punjabi department Soon
Lahore—A Punjabi Mushaira and Faiz Ahmad Faiz Poetry Competition was held at GCU this week to celebrate World Poetry Day. Many famous Punjabi Poets attended the event. Students from 22 top Universities participated in the poetry competition.
The GCU Professor and vice-chancellor Dr. Hassan Amir Shah inaugurated the event of mushaira. More than 28 eminent Punjabi Poets including Younas Aqir, Murli Chohan, Dr. Sughra Sadaf, Habib Ullah and Asim Pehtayar presented their poetry collection at Mushaira.
Then Vice Chancellor mentioned in his speech that GCU would establish Punjabi Department soon. He said that University would start the admissions of BA Hons Punjabi this year.
Vice Chancellor welcomed the students and explained the benefits to study Punjabi literature. He mentioned that Punjabi literature is one of the mystical elevation. It has one of the best mystic literature of the world. Punjabi classical poets could be juxtaposed with the best poets of other international languages. Vice Chancellor advocated teaching the Punjabi language to children in schools.
The University Debating Society also helps a mushaira, Nazam and ghazal competition as part of Faiz Poetry Competition at Bukhari Auditorium. The UET Lahore secured the first position in the competition while PU and University of Agriculture Faisalabad stood second and third respectively.
UET won the ghazal contest, and the Kind Edward Medical College and Punjab College Lahore stood second and third respectively. PU lifted the overall team trophy.
