Pakistan Senate approved the Hindu Marriage Bill
On Friday, the Pakistan Senate passed Hindu Marriage Bill 2017. Hindu community will be having the personal law for the first time in the country. The bill was approved by the National Assembly on September 26 in 2016 and still has to get the presidential assent next week to become legal law. This bill will assist all the Hindu women to get the documentary proof of marriage. It is the first personal law passed especially for the Pakistani Hindus and will be applicable in Balochistan, KPK, and Punjab.
Sindh already has implemented and formulates the Hindu marriage law. Law Minister Zahid Hamid has presented the bill in the Senate and faced no opposition due to which Functional Committee on Human Rights approved it with the majority on January 2nd.
The chairperson Senator Nasreen Jalil said that it was unfair against the human rights as well as the principles of Islam. Formulating the personal family law for the Pakistani Hindus is great. The law will undoubtedly pave the way for the documentation known as Shadi Parath, which is similar to Nikahnama for the Muslims. Shadi Parath is signed by the Pundit and will be registered by the relevant government department.
