UK’s largest retailer “Tesco” is coming to Pakistan

World’s third largest and United Kingdom’s (UK) largest grocery and general merchandise retailer “Tesco” is soon to be launched in Pakistan. Alpha supermarket in Pakistan and Tesco has made partnership to launch the food as well as non-food products in the Pakistan.

In next three years, the administration of Alpha supermarkets is planning to have 50 express stores in the Pakistan along with three flagship stores in big cities of country that is in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The company is investing so much to build mega stores in the country and has already invested $2 million in Karachi.

The Chairman of Limestone Private Limited Nadeem Hussain told Media at British High Commission that Only Alpha Supermarket will be able to have the products of Tesco as it has partnership particularly with Alpha Supermarkets in Pakistan.

He added, “Till now no investment has been made by Tesco after the partnership, but investment by Tesco is expected to be in future.”

Nadeem Hussain further said that this partnership shows greatly about the Perception of the Tesco about Pakistan, where 30 million people have expandable income.

As Pakistan’s economy is getting better day by day and so are its 3G services and smart phone penetration, therefore many investors are attracting towards it for investment.

Tesco’s market shares in United Kingdom have been increased by 26% to 28%.

Hussain told that Alpha supermarkets are set to launch second flagship store in Lahore by investing over $1 million.

British High Commissioner in Pakistan admired the partnership by saying that this partnership shows the trust of investors on the economy of Pakistan. Further he said that this partnership will lead to improved relationships of two countries.

Lebel said that Tesco has different branches in 11 across Asia and Europe and company invests £1 billion for making improvements in the services of the company.

Belinda Lewis, Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi said that due to improvements in Pakistan’s economy, Pakistan’s image is getting better in foreign countries and hence diverting them to invest in the country.
