Government is going to impose ban on commercial sheesha smoking
To protect the health of youth of Pakistan, government is deciding to ban commercial Sheesha smoking across the country.
There will be complete ban on sale of tobacco in cafes and shops after imposing the ban, according to Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination.
Government will ban opening of sheesha centre or café in any hotel, market or at public places. The sale of the sheesha will also banned in bazaars.
An official of Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination said that notification will be issued soon by the ministry for the prohibition of Sheesha smoking. The decision was made to discourage the youth of Pakistan who smoke sheesha, as it is harmful for health. The sheesha smokers not only harm themselves by smoking it but the people who are exposed to the smoke emitted also get harmed.
Sheesha smoking poses serious health hazards to smokers and to non-smokers as well.
Dr wasim khawaja from Pakistan institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad told that sheesha is the flavored tobacco smoke processed through water pipes. He added due to the high frequency of puffing, depth of inhalation and smoking Sheesha for long period of time makes it more toxic for health as smokers inhale large amount of toxins.
He further told that charcoal is used to heat the tobacco which makes it more injurious for health. As it is passed through the water but still the smoke produced contains large amount cancer causing chemicals. He added, Sheesha tobacco and smoke contains toxic substances which are reported to cause lung, bladder and oral cancers.
He told that women who smoke Sheesha during their pregnancy risks their new born’s life. The woman who smokes Sheesha during her pregnancy gave birth to the baby with low weight than baby born to non-smoker woman. The woman who smokes Sheesha during her pregnancy may increase the risk of respiratory diseases to the baby. Sheesha smoking deliver same amount of nicotine as cigarettes do leading to nicotine addiction.
