Delivering World’s First Human Head Transplant
Placing the head of one person on another person’s body seems to be a dialogue of a horror movie that cannot be thought to be done actually. But Dr. Sergio Canavero, an Italian neurologist, is determined to the first human head transplant in the history of the world. According to the news, a Russian man named Valery Spiridonov will be his first patient for the first ever head transplant. Valery Spiridonov has been suffering from Werdnig-Hoffmann (muscles wasting disease) , he is willing his head transplant. Talking to the BBC Newsbeat he said that there is a list of the patient who are willing to have head transplant despite the operation is quite dicey. Most of the patient belong to the UK.
In this regard, he has hired A Chinese surgeon, Dr. Xiaoping Ren, to work with him. Dr. Sergio Canavero is confident that his plan for the first human head transplant will be done by the end of the year 2017 as the availability of the number of volunteer donor making it sure to be done sooner than expectation.
It has been sued by the Surgeon that the operation will be carried out in 36 hours in the presence of about 150 medical staff.
The risky operation will be done by cutting the Spinal cord with a special type of knife but before this, to prevent the cells from dying the head and the body will be frozen and then the neck will be cut. After that the head will be moved onto the donors’ body and the parts will be reattached and the skin will be stitched yet again.
Dr. Sergio Canavero has also been criticized by many Scientists and his plans for the successful head transplant have been baptized as the false hopes. But Canavero has proclaimed that such daring initiatives are the chunks of scientific investigations as the field demands to be explored as much as it can be.
