New Travelling Policy by US Levies: What are you doing at Social Media?
The government of US avowed a new policy to overcome the terrorists’ threats, according to the sources.
The visitors to the US will be asked about their Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts as a part of visa policy. These social media accounts information and the profile details will be collected in order to enhance the investigation schemes.
The visa policy already contained a number of processes like fingerprints, consultations and other database checking. Now there will be an additional field stimulating the visitors “Please enter information associated with your online presence” containing a dropdown menu that will show various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google etcetera. This question will be added to Electronic System for Travelling Authorization(ESTA) and to Form I-94W.
According to the US Federal Register: “collecting social media data will enhance the existing investigative process and provide Department of Homeland Security (DHS) greater clarity and visibility to possible nefarious activity and connections by providing an additional tool set which analysts and investigators may use to better analyze and investigate the case.”
It is still ambiguous that what is the actual purpose of asking the visitors for their social media accounts as there are chances that the field might be filled with a fake information while according to the US Federal Register it is an optional field that will be used for the screening purpose.
