Karachi iconic park has been handed over to Bahria Town
The Karachi iconic park is spread over to 130 acres. The Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim was redeveloped with a period of 10 months. The encroachments had been removed from the area of 70 acres in February 2007. The place was open to the public by President and Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf. On Thursday, the Sindh Government have handed the Karachi iconic park to the Bahria Town for 10 years. The provincial authorities claim to save funds and encourage various organizations to carry the social and public service.
The notification has been issued by Sindh local Government ministry and finalized the decision to adopt the part. After the approval of competent authority, the salary of the staff will be paid by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
After this handover, the PPP-led Sindh Government to take the control over the part of city municipal administration which is dominated by Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan. In pursuance of notification, the even number dated 21-11-2016 after the approval by the competent authority. The Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim Park has been taken by the local government department from KMC along with aquarium which is situated in Clifton. It is handed to the MS Bahria Town Private Limited according to the agreement executed on 30-03-2017.
Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar told media that he was not consulted on the handover of the park. The park is in the vicinity of Bahria Icon Tower which has an under construction building of 60 storeys. It is developed by the real estate tycoon and will be the country tallest building.
Minister Jam Khan Shoro have cleared and said that if organizations have started adopting the parks, then it will not be used for commercial purposes. MQM Pakistan Leader Faisal Subzwari said that the reports about the park is handed because of the condition that Bahria Town will use eight acres of area for commercial activities. These conditions will be equal to exploitation for people rights, and the party will raise the issue in assemblies or even in court.
In the absence f local government, the situation of the part started getting worse. For five years, the park was continuously affected by the attendance of families at Park. According to the new agreement between the provincial government, Bahria Town has already appointed the rel estate company to take care of park for next 10 years. This will help them to utilize the area for various welfare and social projects. Government large funds would be saved in this way.
Mr. Shoro added that years ago, Government must hand over the parks To the local bodies or organization so that they would contribute the services and help government facilities without putting any burden on people or financial interest. The recent amendments have paved the way for the private bodies to adopt parks.
The practice all over the country ensures that people can enjoy healthy and cheap entertainment. Various recreational activities can also be provided. Any organization owning the park will show interest in social world and benefit people.
