World Health Organization –Dr. Sania Nishtar among the top Five Candidates
Dr. Sania Nishtar, former health minister of Pakistan stood among the top five candidates for the post of WHO director general.
Pakistani candidate, Dr. Sania Nishtar secured 41pc votes in the pre-poll. She has a wide and far-reaching practice in public healthcare within the country as well as outside the country.
After securing 41pc votes she has got a chance to be chosen for the post of WHO director general as the WHO will select from these top five candidates on Wednesday in Geneva.
Nishtar had also worked as civil society leader and founded a private organization HeartFile health financing, a program to prevent deprived patients from medical destitutions, in 1990.
Nishtar is considered to be a strongest candidate according to an official of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) as she secured 41pc pre-election votes while the second highest votes were 26pc.
He added that only three candidates will be selected by the WHO on Wednesday among the five nominated contenders. For the selection of these three candidates all the 198 members of the WHO will perform their ballots in the final election.
